Yay on being first

Hi Donna, you betcha this is working. Glad you made the jump over here! Smile

I found it!

Shall I confess something dreadful - I have been linking to In The Mood by the link Liz F sent me when she first invited me over here to play (I'd bookmarked it). When it told me that page couldn't be found I was like - where are all my friends? But it did forced me to go exploring.

I'd been wondering how people managed to get photos of themselves up and all...

And the chats look interesting...

I fear this old-fashioned, write by long hand gal is going to have to update herself.

Michelle

Hi all!

Found you!  Am getting used to everything but I love the new look.

Michelle, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you how to add a pic.  If not here, I'll bet that there is or soon will be a discussion forum on how to do it!

Penn, still getting used to the new site but liking its looks!

Adding a Picture

  1. Create a profile and Introduce yourself: Now that you've Registered/Logged in, the next step is to create a fabu profile. Click the "My Profile" button at the top of the page to access your new profile page. At the top of that page you'll see two links, "VIEW", and "EDIT". Click the "EDIT" link and look at all of the information you are now able to share. (NOTE: This information is public so if there's something there that you don't want the world to know, leave it blank or put something really generic into that field.) Be sure to upload a photograph of yourself or an icon that really represents YOU because that photo or icon is going to be visible all over the eHarlequin.com community pages, not only on your blog and forum posts but in your friend’s gallery and maybe even as a Featured Member. Instant fame!

Well, I couldn't get my mountains to work b/c they were too small . . . I found the rose that I'm using right now by searching for public domain photos: I didn't find any mountains that I liked, yet (well, I did but they were also "too small" and I didn't want to figure out how to enlarge them).  Maybe later.  A rose for me is okay but not really representative of me I don't think. I'm just glad to have a picture.

New Board

Oh, boy -- i really didn't have time for this, this morning.  Hunting for my password, all that stuff.   I've managed to upload a photograph, but haven't a clue how to redo my sig. line.  It took me forever to work it out the first time but now can't check how I did it.

I'm sure I'll get over the grumps and it'll all lbe lovely when I've worked out where everything is and what all the new stuff is about, but I have to say that nothing drives me away from a site faster than having to jump through hoops.  And now I can't remember why I came here in the first place.

Oh yes.  Annie West will be guest blogging with me tomorrow and giving away a copy of her latest book at http://lizfielding.blogspot.com

Huh?

So is that how you do it.  Just type it in -- no html?   I confess I copied Donna.  She of the internet brain.

Okay, back to the decorating -- one more day and the wallpapering should be done (now you know why I'm really in a grump!Laughing)  And I can do italics without going through hoops.  Now I'm beginning to enjoy myself!

I actually like the new site a lot.  Once you get set up, there's less clicking involved because everything is in your favourites.  Plus each member has their own blog.  I like that a lot!

Its getting easier

I'm finding my faves easier now. Lastnight I couldn't find anything or I'd have been here then! I probably sound like a whiner by now because I'm saying this for all my hosties to see, but I can't use colors! I can't use my green font. And my piccy is still MIA even though I've tried it 3 times already. The most recent was 314KB. Is that still too small/big? How many KB does it have to be? I did delete my old one before uploading the new one.

So for my sig line I just have to type it in, but what do I do to link my blog and email?  And why does my font keep changing colors? Undecided

Rae?

Can you help me with the bio? I have my sig line and pic now, but I can't seem to click on bio and it still says I haven't made one.

Bio

You still need to go in to edit profile and then pick the option that lets you enter your interests and bio - I think it's the second tab in.

Lisa,

Dee sent you an email. You need to close your font tags--you're making all of our posts green. And yes, what Donna said about your profile.

::waves to Liz and Nell :::

Penn, maybe resizing your mountains? I need a new picture of myself. Maybe I'll have one of the kids take it later.

Rae

Yeah, I thought about resizing my mountains

Once we're all settled, I'll find someone who's already told us how to do it.  Or I'll ask . . . for now, I'm happy to have my rose and just get settled in.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Penn

Rae

Ok Rae- I responded to Dee already, signed out, went to a new browser and logged back in--- after I made sure I had closed my font tag (which it was- 3 times over so I removed 2). I just got back in so I'm sure someone will let me know if this didn't work.

Sorry it took me so long to get back in here to fix it.

EDIT- Only it doesn't look like it fixed anything. <sigh> Off to (hopefully temporarily) undo my green tag line until the glitch is found and repaired.

I'm here...

Hello Everyone. I'm getting there. New things make me feel dumb.

I've managed the picture, the sig, the bio. Have added this forum to my favourites. What else do I need to learn?

Claire!

Hi! It's so nice that we're all slowly (but surely?) finding our way here! We're all getting a feel for the new place.  Next week, we can send search parties out for our friends who haven't found their way in!

Penn

Hi all

Hi all. Penn, I love your flower.

Well, marking the forums as favorites makes it easier. I never visited the forums of lines I liked much with the old way but this year I have HR marked under favorites.

Liz, I am glad to hear your frustrations. Jumping through hoops right now is not what I need now either. My dh is sick with a stomach bug, I wanted to work today, UPS has totally mangled big book orders and I spent all day on the phone trying to reorder books many now sold out (not Halrequin books, thank goodness!), etc. etc. I like the buddy/friend aspect too but I am totally overwhelmed by the blogs. I am thinking the friend way is the only way to be able to really read what people have to say. I don't like snippets because it strips away the individuality I grew to love in the bloggers. I am sure it will get better and there are many elements I do like but as soon as someone blogs a book, the blog disappears it seems just because of the mass quantity of blogs.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to the HR line and this forum. I finally got everything sorted out and have all the Feb. books on the way and a subscription that will start now with March books.

I'm Here!

Hi everyone! I'm here! I just don't know if I'll ever get back!  Undecided I'm having a  tough time navigating this board so far. I hope it gets easier!Cry But, I think it'll be great if I ever figure it out!

Still struggling

No, there's no way I can cope with another blog.  We've already got editors complaining that we spend too much time doing this stuff!    Today I've got guest blogs at the Pink Heart Society and My Tote Bag and I'm hosting a guest of my own.  Celebrating 50 books isn't all champagne and roses!

One thing I'm finding annoying is that I have to scroll down through the entire list of posts each time.  Not too bad at the moment, but it's going to become a problem.  Is that going to be sorted Rae?

Returning and reading

Tamelia- If you go to the top of each room you want to revisit you can mark them as a faveorite. Then when you sign in each time all you have to do id go straight to your favorites and click on the one you want to go to and it will take you directly to it.

Liz- If you have already done the step above when you go to your favorites and click on the #new it should take you directly to the last post you read. Saves a lot of time and scrolling.

Questions...

One thing I'm finding annoying is that I have to scroll down through the entire list of posts each time.  Not too bad at the moment, but it's going to become a problem.  Is that going to be sorted Rae?

Yes, Liz, they're working on that first. Bear with us, soon we'll be able to not have to scroll so much. Also, if you add this thread to your favorites, you won't have to scroll and search and click as much as you're doing. Rae

Friends?

I've already had some really kind people add me as a "friend" but can't figure out how that works.  Help!

If you click on that person's name, then once you're in their profile, you can add them as a friend.

I've got this bookmarked in

I've got this bookmarked in favorites and I clicked on new and I still had to scroll through everything before I got the new posts.  Same thing happens in teh gal pal corral which already has 5 pages of posts.  At least when you click on last though, it does take you to the last page even if it is the top of the last page and there may be new posts on the previous page.  I guess it helps in that you don't have to scroll through 5 pages.  If I had to do that I thinik I'd give up until they got it fixed.

Oh yeah, then the other

Oh yeah, then the other bummer is once you've posted you get kicked back up to the top and have to go through the scrolling again to find your post

Hello Everyone!

I've come out of major lurkdom because I wanted to see if I had managed to get everything right. It's taken an afternoon and a morning to upload and write everything. Finding a decent photo was the biggest challenge!

Most of you won't remember me because I haven't posted in a couple of years. Here's a quick bio. I've been writing for a while and have won some RWA chapter contests. My last book, an Everlasting Love, was rejected back in Sept. by the senior editor. She also broke the news that the line was merging, and maybe, I could change my book to a regular format without the flashbacks and rewrite it for another line.

I thought long and hard about it and decided now was the time to go back to writing what I love to read every month. That would be you ladies and your books! I have a partial in Richmond that has been there about eight weeks. I'm not too impatient because my last few chapters need more help. Chapters 8 & 9 are always so hard to get right.

I'm hoping this book will be the one. Who knows? I do have a funny story about mailing the partial though. I was at the post office, and the nice clerk told me that the regular air mail rate was half the price of Global Priority and would arrive at the same time. I took off the Priority outer envelope, but my bubble wrap envelope inside had been folded down to make the package snug. The adhesive wasn't very sticky any more.

The clerk said he had an padded envelope I could have because a lady had left it behind a week earlier. When I saw it, I knew why. It was entirely covered in daisies of brilliant fuschia and yellow. I stared at it horrified and pictured the M&B editors wondering about the "flowery prose" inside. I mumbled something about needing a more professional envelope.

Still anxious to please, the clerk said not to worry. My original envelope would do, though it didn't stick well. The clerk found some gray packing tape in the exact shade of duct tape. I was absolutely speechless as he wound it around both sides and ends. The largest uncovered spots were the address and postage labels. He was so proud of his work that all I could do was thank him faintly and leave. My only hope is that the UK editors aren't aware of all the jokes common in the US about nerds and their overuse of duct tape. At least, my manuscript should stand out in the stacks!

Happy Writing, (I need to do some. I read Liz's sheikh book yesterday instead. Loved it!)

By the way, has the Ask the M&B Editors thread gone away? I know people didn't post much, but it was very helpful.

New Blog

I wrote a quick and simple blog. It's the Home and Family Suggestion/Idea Box. This will be a place for you all to give me ideas on stuff you want to see/talk about on the Simply Series Home and Hearth forum/board.

This is also the place for any of you to suggest which line you want to see an editor pitch challenge for.
