The Spice Rack

Please, be aware that subject matter in
SPICE discussions may contain topics of
  an adult nature.

Spice is an imprint that's hotter than
the BLAZE series and offers the best
  of erotic fiction for women.

  Sophisticated and realistic, Spice
novels feature explicit sex scenes and
frank language. Written by some of the brightest stars of women's fiction, these novels are engaging, entertaining and very sexy!

Female readers who enjoy reading Lori Foster, Emma Holly and Zane will love the erotic fiction of Spice. (And make no mistake - with its engaging story lines and involving characters, this is erotic fiction, not erotica)

BTW all, I have a question.

BTW all, I have a question. In a Spice Brief, how important do you think it is for the heroine to be a sympathetic character? I have a story where the heroine is twisted and uses her whiles to get the affable hero... and it would ruin it to make her good. Is this acceptable, do you think?

I'm so confuzzled...

I went to my usual bookmark and Spice Rack was gone. Page not found! No bread crumbs! Good thing I'm persistent...

Lauren--I think as long as there is a good reason for the twisted heroine, she can be played sympathetic even if her actions aren't always good. And you can let the hero straighten her out! *cackle*

New Digs etc.

I can not believe I found it on the first try.

I think understanding where the heroine is coming from is more important than particularly liking them.  That's just my humble opinion.Smile

Breadcrumbs

Hello ladies.

I couldn't get on to get a link to leave breadcrumbs until now. Sorry.

This is the actual thread we'll be using now. Welcome back.

I've left breadcrumbs in the last rack.

And Lauren, I don't think so. I agree with Betty.  I think it depends on your story.

Bread Crumbs!

Lorie - I think you can go ahead use the bread crumbs to make stuffing.  If I have found my way around, it will be a piece of cake for everyone else!  Great job, and so much smoother than the switch a few years back.  Great job!Cool

Breadcrumbs

Thanks Betty, it is much smoother isn't it.

I didn't see any breadcrumbs but after looking around a bit I found the new digs.

Interesting. I guess I'll see after I post if my sig, etc is still in the system.

twisted heroines

I think flawed characters are wonderful. But keep in mind the limitations of the wordcount on a brief. She doesn't have to be perfect but if she's your heroine you want people to like her or at least see her as a heroine.

likeable heroines

And along that line, if you're writing for Briefs,  it doesn't have to be a "romance" per se. Erotica is different than erotic romance -- I would say in a romance you MUST have likeable heroes and heroines. It's just one of those things a romance needs.

But erotica? Well...one might argue that any heroine or hero should be likeable, but I'm not sure that has to be true. A compelling, intriguing and interesting character can drive fiction, even sexy fiction, just as well or even better than one everyone "likes."

Or you can make someone seem unlikeable and show their growth and have them be likeable at the end.

Thanks for the advice all.

Megan, I have a complaint ;) Since reading about kettle chips in Tempted I have been eating them by the bagful- ARGH! But they are keeping the muse happy, so I guess... thanks? ;)

Welcome Back

Hey LD, M, glad to see you.

Who said chips... my arse may never forgive me.

I made it... kinda

Still trying to figure out the new threads/digs and what goes where.

So it seems we have a new thread/discussion for strictly the writing side of things with "between the sheets... of paper" - how cool. Or did I completely misunderstand the thread title and info.

Between the Sheets

Yes, Angeleque

You've got it right.

While all fiction writing has the same basic structure erotic fiction does vary enough that it should have it's own space. I thought about asking Dee to park it on her board, since she's the hosty for The Write Stuff, but then I'd have to board hop even more...

Tempted...

Megan, I am completely intrigued by the blurb for Tempted. If it were a shorter book, I'd have downloaded it already! However, for longer books, I want the print version. I'm angling to get near a B&N by Friday. (I live in the boonies, no bookstores.) Can't wait to read it!

cool. just what I thought. Now if I can figure out how to upload and avatar then I'd  be even better.

I must say I like the new look and layout, though it's going to take some getting used to. It'll give me something to do as I still wait on my spice brief submission response.

tease...

Oh, tease me not once but twice huh Lauren... Tongue out not fair.

Shayla, in case I missed it earlier, welcome to the Rack.

Good luck on your Brief Angeleque

re - good luck

Thanks.

Waiting is hard but I'm still writing and adding more irons to the fire so hopefully I'll hear something soon (closing in on 6 months). It's different a kinda reunion story with an open ending not a true HEA so from what I read it may work for the line.

And all this waiting is helping me to try and develop patience.

I've had a couple of

I've had a couple of comments double post today. But that's better than not posting at all ;)

Spice Brief Submission

Angeleque, you and I must have subbed around the same time. I'm closing in on the six month mark. Mine didn't necessarily have an HEA either. The H/h weren't in love. Just having really good sex! *cackle*

Thanks for the welcome, Lorie. I lurked a lot on the old list. I might have posted once there. I like the new format better. It's easier to post--for me anyway!
